Is Cake Bake Shop Worth the High Price Tag?
Here we go! My first visit to The Cake Bake Shop!
I finally got the opportunity to eat at The Cake Bake Shop on Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk. This independently owned restaurant by Gwendolyn Rodgers (which also has two locations in Indiana) serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner as well as an Afternoon Tea service. The location is perfect. Right on the Boardwalk outside of EPCOT on Crescent Lake. You could pop out of the park or walk from one of the 6 deluxe hotel locations right nearby.
The space is comprised of the sit down restaurant and the quick service bakery right next door. Both spaces are absolutely stunningly beautiful. I wonder if the staff has bets on how many times they will hear new guests GASP when they walk in the door. The details are beautiful it’s a girly girl’s dream. Do you like the color pink and glitter? You will love it. Even if you don’t, you’ll still be impressed.
The space is just stunning. The characters are basically on a carousel that slowly rotates during the meal.
The menus offer a variety of choices for each meal and truly something for everyone - even the pickiest of eaters - there are buttered noodles on the menu! Also lots of options for gluten free needs.
This restaurant is known for high prices. “A slice of cake for $22!” was all I heard when it first opened. So I went in with a hesitant opinion. I wanted to try it - heck researching these types of experiences is part of my job so I can recommend them (or not). But I figured it would be overhyped and overpriced and probably not for me or maybe just a one and done experience. I was SO WRONG!
Here’s what I ordered with prices, but you can find the FULL MENU HERE.
Petunia Punch - Lemonade, Lemon-Lime soda, and guava syrup - $8
Chicken Piccata - Parmesan breaded chicken breasts served with lemon caper pasta and dressed arugula - $37
Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse Pie - Peanut butter mousse, Callebaut belgian chocolate cookie crust, Callebaut belgian chocolate ganache and chopped peanuts - $17
The best meal I’ve had on Disney property. I can’t stop thinking about this Chicken Piccata!
Every single bite and sip was delicious. I’ve been drooling thinking about that Chicken Piccata ever since - I even tried to recreate it at home and it was not nearly as good. I didn’t even have half of the peanut butter pie, and took the rest back to my room. It made a very tasty breakfast and treat later that next night. Definitely sharable!
Was it expensive? Yeah, kinda. I felt it was on par with fine dining prices in any major city I’ve been to. Was it worth the price? Honestly, in my opinion, yes. That $22 slice of cake could easily feed a family of 4. I would go back again in a heartbeat. I think this would be the PERFECT way to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary and I would highly recommend it for a girls trip or mother-daughter visit.
The bakery also features a gift shop and EVERYTHING was so pretty. The stuffed animals are so soft (and yes, pricey). These would make such a beautiful gift.
The staff was attentive, the space was beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious! Reservations through the Disney website can be VERY difficult to get but Open Table seems to have lots of availability so I’d recommend going that route!
I love you chocolate peanut butter pie.
I’ll be back my next visit, but what do you think? Would you try this restaurant on your next Walt Disney World trip?
